Alsike leaves are smooth which sit on semi erect, long stems. The flowers are white or pale pink, they bend down and turn brown after pollination.

Alsike being a biennial, it usually lives two or three years and produces two good harvests per year. When mature it can reach a height of two to four feet. It is normally planted as a legume mix and is also used in combinations with red clover on fields that are water logged or have low pH levels.
