Ethiopian Mustard (Brassica carinata) is a deep rooting green manure crop that produces a large amount of organic matter. Its flowers are particularly attractive to honey bees. It is fast growing, frost hardy and acts as a very good weed suppressor due to its dense canopy. Easy to establish, Brassica carinata rapidly covers the ground. It is suitable for late sowings because it tolerates the cold well. Also used to improve poor soils. It is similar to both Kale and Forage Rape, but is a species in its own right.
