Upright Brome

Upright Brome is a tall perennial grass with upright flowering stems with branched heads. They arise from basal tufts or tussocks of tough green leaves.

Upright Brome thrives on dry, infertile, calcareous soils, this species can become dominant in ungrazed or undergrazed chalk and limestone grasslands. Upright brome can be sown at any time of the year when the soil conditions are suitable. When used in mixtures on chalk or limestone it is usually sown with other species of grass such as Sheeps Fescue, this gives the ground an initial cover.
