Wood Meadowgrass

Wood Meadowgrass is not very tolerant of wear or intensive mowing, so is more suited to woodland mixtures than lawns.

Wood Meadowgrass (Poa nemoralis) is a short to medium perennial grass. “Nemoralis” meaning ‘of woodlands’. This is not a creeping grass, it spreads by seed distribution. The delicate, flat green leaves of Wood Meadowgrass grow in short tufts in semi-shaded places –ย  such as woodland glades – on a wide range of moist, fertile soil types. It is slow to develop and does not provide complete ground cover. A regular species in woodland and shade tolerant grass seed mixtures.
