Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) is a mandatory requirement under the Environment Act 2021, aimed at ensuring that biodiversity is measurably improved following development. This requires developers to achieve at least a 10% net gain in biodiversity through initiatives such as habitat creation, restoration, or enhancement, promoting long-term ecological benefits and sustainable land use.

The Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) is a key component of the UK Government's Environmental Land Management Schemes, aimed at rewarding farmers for implementing sustainable practices that benefit the environment while supporting continued agricultural activity. Designed with flexibility in mind, the SFI is accessible to farms of all sizes and types, encouraging widespread adoption.

Good maintenance will enable your paddock to be a good food source for years to come. Initial ground preparation is different depending on whether you are starting a paddock from scratch or over seeding.

Paddocks will deteriorate over time and can get bare patches and weeds taking over if not looked after properly. Therefore sometimes a complete reseed in necessary. Reseeding means taking the paddock back down to the bare soil and starting again from scratch.

Grassland deteriorates over time and over seeding helps maintain it rather than resorting to a complete reseed. Good maintenance can give good grazing for years to come.

Environmental Land Management Schemes (ELMS) are a vital component of the UK Government's agricultural policy, designed to reward farmers and landowners for enhancing the environment while maintaining agricultural productivity. These schemes aim to strike a balance between productive farming and ecological stewardship, fostering a more sustainable and environmentally resilient future for agriculture.
ELMS is structured around three key components: the Sustainable Farming Incentive, Local Nature Recovery and Landscape Recovery. These schemes replace the EU's Common Agricultural Policy and adopt a "public money-for-public goods" approach, incentivising practices that enhance biodiversity, improve soil health, boost water quality, and strengthen climate resilience.
